On Sunday, Michael Duffy awoke to the sound of a pup snoring – but not the kind of pup you might think.

The 48-year-old sailor discovered a seal pup sleeping in his San Diego boat on Mother’s Day and filmed a video of the adorable creature.

“It was a tiny little guy, and I was kind of shocked, but he was basically asleep,” Duffy told the Associated Press, guessing it was a male. “Then he heard me coming, so he kind of looked up a little bit like when a dog is sleeping and you want to wake it up and it doesn’t want to wake up.”

He first heard the animal sneezing and snoring at 2:30 a.m. but went back to sleep after investigating and not finding any of his friends on his boat, which was docked at the San Diego Yacht Club. When the sun rose later, Duffy heard the sound again and found the pup sitting like a dog on a bunk bed.

“He was extremely well behaved, except for his loud snoring and sneezing,” Duffy said. “He was looking at me, and I was like ‘you gotta go.’ ”

The AP said Duffy, an advertising copywriter, nicknamed the pup Gilligan after the character on Gilligan’s Island.

“It was a very personal thing, and he was a very cute guy,” he said. “But I was a little emotional about it. For that 2 ½ minutes he was my little buddy.”
