Sandra Lee's Cockatoo Is a Potty Training Prodigy
The Semi-Homemade star dishes on her new pet bird
Sandra Lee’s new baby bird was once sporting diapers around the house, but he won’t have much use for them anymore. The star of the Food Network show, Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee, is proud of her white umbrella cockatoo Phoenix’s latest milestone.
“He’s only 5 months old and he’s almost potty trained,” Sandra Lee told PEOPLEPets.com as she hosted The World’s Largest Bake Sale in New York on Tuesday. “God bless, that’s all I care about.”
Lee, 44, received the cockatoo last Christmas from her boyfriend, New York governor Andrew Cuomo. Since then, Phoenix has been getting used to his glamorous life with Lee, which even included a photo shoot for Vogue.
“Phoenix is gorgeous, every day is a new day with him,” Lee said. “He walks, and when you call him, he comes.”
Hatched five months ago today, Phoenix has developed his own distinct personality. “Cockatoos are known for being kind of wild and rowdy, but he’s a very sweet and calm little bird and he just loves to explore,” Lee said. “He’s a handful.”
And if Lee is the First Girlfriend, Phoenix is the First Bird. “I take him between [New York City] and Westchester, and if I have to go upstate [to Albany], he goes there, too. He’s got 3 different homes,” Lee said. “He’s what First Birds are made of!”
