Country star Miranda Lambert and her fiancé Blake Shelton are grieving over the loss of their dog Steve, who died suddenly on Saturday.

“Please send prayers to our family. We lost our puppy steve yesterday in an accident. He is happy in heaven now,” the singer shared on Twitter Sunday, the same day she performed in Sweet Home, Ore., at the 18th Annual Oregon Jamboree.

Lambert, an animal lover who recently adopted a teacup Chihuahua that she found in an Oklahoma Dumpster, posted a picture of Steve on Twitter with the message “R.I.P. My Sweet Angel.”

Shelton was clearly very upset by the incident. “Worst day for me in a longtime. Rest in peace Steve….” he wrote on Twitter Aug. 1.

The engaged couple are grateful for the outpouring of support they’ve received since the dog’s death. “Thanks for all ur thoughts and prayers for Blake and I about Steve. And thanks to the most amazing place ever. Sweet Home Oregon,” Lambert wrote.
