The world’s ugliest dog is pretty adorable.

Quasi Modo, a 10-year-old pit bull-Dutch shepherd mix, so-named for his hunchback (the result of birth defects), was honored for his so-called ugliness at the annual contest on Friday.

“My appearance can be a little unsettling to some (I have had grown men jump on top of their cars to get away from me because they thought I was a hyena or Tasmanian devil) but once they get to know me I win them over with my bubbly personality,” his biography reads, according to the Associated Press.

Other contestants included Boolah, Icky and Sweepee Rambo, the runner-up. Judges score them on first impression, unusual attributes, natural ugliness personality and audience impression.

This year’s “spirit award” winner, given to a dog and owner who have overcome obstacles and/or serve the community, went to Precious.

An 8-year-old Chihuahua who is blind in one eye, Precious is trained to monitor her owner, a disabled veteran, if she senses smells related to low blood sugar, according to the AP.

“We aren’t interested in lineage, it’s the inner beauty and personality that shine,” the contest’s marketing director said on its website.

Quasi Modo was abandoned by his previous owner, according to the AP, and was adopted by a Florida veterinarian.

He beat out 26 other dogs in the competition, held in Petaluma, California, netting his owner a $1,500 check and other prizes, according to organizers.

Quasi’s reward will include a media tour in San Francisco and New York and a makeover on Jimmy Kimmel Live!.
