A growing breed of pet owners are going to great lengths to transform their pooches into colorful creatures like dragons and peacocks – all for the sake of competition. It’s the world of Creative Grooming and Sandra Hartness, left, a groomer from Yucca Valley, Calif., planned this camel ‘doo for her dog Cindy for a full year. Hartness grew the white poodle’s hair out of for nine months, then dyed it in stages to create he camel effect for this winning outfit.

Annette Bamper of ABC Grooming says that her older poodle got jealous when she started coloring this younger dog, Joker. “He loves to be colored. He’d rather be colored than plain,” she says. Joker does both St. Patrick’s and pride parades.
