Anywhere between five to seven million pets enter shelters every year.

Even more disturbing? More than half of them are euthanized due to lack of space, according to photographer Liz Stavrinides’s new book, Miracle Dogs.

The book celebrates dog rescuers by sharing their stories, as well as gorgeous photographs of the animals with their owners.

In addition to featuring dog trainers and rescue organizations such as The Gentle Barn, Miracle Dogs also highlights celebrity dog rescuers, including Hoda Kotb, Lance Bass, Chevy Chase, and Jamie-Lynn Sigler – and PEOPLE has images from the book!

That’s puppy love for you!
