“Is this where I left my steak bone?”

Residents of El Dorado Hills, California, awoke to a strange sight: A large black dog standing atop a space usually reserved for Santa and his reindeer. According to KCRA, the pooch, named Gracie, was found pawing around the roof of her home on Sunday.

The El Dorado Hills Fire Department responded to the situation, and while this was its first dog-on-a-roof rescue, the department’s years of experience saving cats from trees helped. Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach Gracie. Once the rescuers arrived on the roof, they carefully scooped up the dog and brought her back down in the truck’s bucket.

Gracie was understandably a little shaken by the ordeal, but returned to the ground unharmed.

Her owners are not sure how the large dog ended up on the roof, but they say this isn’t the first time they’ve caught Gracie taking in the sights from the top of their home.

She’s probably in the dog house now, though.
