Pets Have a Howling Good Time at Animal Fair's Halloween Costume Party
Ramona Singer from the Real Housewives of New York City helped hand out the evening’s prizes to the top dogs
Under a giant disco ball they gathered: hundreds of costumed New Yorkers and their elaborately attired pets crowded into a cavernous Manhattan nightclub to celebrate Animal Fair magazine’s 9th annual Halloween Pet Costume Party Monday night.
It wasn’t simply about tricks and treats. One hundred percent of the proceeds from ticket sales for the event – priced at $40, $100 and $2,500 – were donated to the Humane Society of New York.
“It’s a fantastic party,” the Humane Society’s Associate Director, Anne Marie Karash, dressed as a cat burglar, tells PEOPLEPets.com. “We see sad stories every day and take care of so many homeless animals that it’s good to be silly and have fun and dress up our dogs.”
From a tiny Yorkshire Terrier dressed as Princess Fiona from the movie Shrek to a giant white Labrador Retriever painted with black stripes to look like a zebra, dogs of all sizes competed in the night’s pet costume contest.
On hand to judge the “Most Tasteless Costume” portion of the evening was one of the stars of the Real Housewives of New York City, Ramona Singer (above), dressed in a red, off-the-shoulder pirate costume, with her 4-year-old Shih-tzu, Coco, in tow. “You know me, I’m going to call it like it is,” Singer told PEOPLEPets.com, shortly before picking a winner – a T-shirt wearing canine who was billed as a “’70s Guido dog.”
Batman, a tiny 3-year-old Chihuahua decked out in camo and sunglasses, took home the award for “Most Newsworthy Costume.” His owners, Lanie Sim and Richard Russillo, a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force, were inspired to pay tribute to the armed forces.
And who won the evening’s tongue-in-cheek title of the “Pet Most in Need of Being Rescued from Their Parent?” That honor went to Meteor, a poodle dressed as Snoopy, who rode around the event in a miniature plane with his sister, FiFiGiGi, whose curly poodle hair was dyed bright yellow like Woodstock! “FiFiGiGi looks a lot like Woodstock and Meteor has a strong personality just like Snoopy,” their doggy mommy Jennifer-Jo Moyer tells PEOPLEPets.com. “My husband Danny built the replica of the Sopwith Camel [the plane that Snoopy rides in to chase the Red Baron] for them to ride in. We’re excited we won!”
