Meet the lucky pups who've been featured on – and have since found forever homes

When the handsome 1-year-old pooch showed up at the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter in Brick, N.J., in May, they couldn’t believe the beautiful dog wasn’t claimed right away.
Adopted: Aug. 20. Clyde got a loving place to call home and an instant buddy – his new family adopted another shepherd from the shelter earlier this year.

The young pit bull mix needed a committed owner to love her – but also keep this “strong-willed” lady in line.
Adopted: Sept. 9, the “sweet, energetic” pooch, who loves attention from people, got a new home and a new job as a ranch hand! Her owners live on a California ranch where she now has plenty of room to run around.

No one knows how the sweet-natured and obedient 10-year-old Chihuahua ended up on doggie death row in Pasadena, Calif., in May. Thankfully, the rescue group Molly’s Mutts & Meows knew she would make a great pet again.
Adopted: Oct. 10. Indira is going to her forever home, which already has a few rescued Chihuahua friends. She’ll be flying to North Carolina with foster mom Jennifer Warner, who is still raising funds for her transport. To learn how you can help, click here.

The 2-year-old pooch, who suffers from nerve damage, was found roaming the streets by staffers at the Austin Dog Rescue.
Adopted: May. Ruthie joined a Virginia family who already had a special-needs pit bull named Indy. Now the pair attends charity events with their owners to raise money for other animals and dogs who require special care.

In the fall of 2009, firefighters saved the Akita-Chow mix from a Gardena, Calif., auto shop that was set on fire by a woman in an apparent suicide. Hachi, believed to be about 6 years old, barely survived and suffered burns on over 60 percent of his body.
Adopted: Shortly after our story ran in March. Hachi now has the carefree and happy life he deserves with his new owner from Palos Verdes, Calif., who takes him for lunch at Trump golf course several times a week.

This tennis-ball-loving 4-year-old was rescued from a kill shelter by the Danbury Animal Welfare Society in Connecticut last October.
Adopted: Community outreach coordinator Cathy Lent describes Houston as the “perfect gentleman” and is happy to report that he has found the also-perfect forever home.

This overweight and unhealthy miniature poodle was surrendered to Pet Helpers adoption center in Charleston, S.C., last year by owners who could no longer afford to take care of him.
Adopted: July 28, Sammie found his forever home with a young area woman who has helped him shed many of his extra pounds. The newly dapper dog is looking forward to dressing up as a pirate for Halloween!

The elderly dog came to the Bideawee rescue group through a New York City municipal shelter after she was picked up on the streets.
Adopted: Oct. 31, 2010, by a family who lives on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Happy Halloween and happy first anniversary in your new home, Honey!

A victim of abuse, Arthur was found starving and skeletal in New Hampshire.
Adopted in: The summer of 2010 from the New Hampshire SPCA. Today he lives with an amazing family, and his owners continue to give shelter workers updates on his progress.

The 8-month-old terrier mix was found wandering Chicago’s south side all alone.
Adopted: July 17, 2010, from PAWS Chicago. She now lives with a young family and a black Lab, who’s her best friend.

Formerly a stray, the gorgeous 4-year-old mixed breed pooch is completely blind.
Adopted: September 2010 from Maryland’s Pets With Disabilities. He’s currently in Delaware with a loving family and a yellow Lab pal named Logan.

The sweet senior pup had been at a Baton Rogue shelter for quite some time.
Adopted: July 2010 from the Capital Area Animal Welfare Society of Baton Rouge, La. Her foster family loved her so much they chose to keep her.

The shy 1-year-old came to Vermont without a backstory, but with a big fear of men.
Adopted: Late May 2010 from Good Karma Rescue. He’s since gone through obedience training with his Vermont family, and shares the house with two cats.

The 9-month-old alpha male was a problem child, bouncing from home to home.
Adopted: Spring 2010 from Molly’s Mutts & Meows. He now has a great owner in San Diego who, appropriately, has worked for PETCO.

Injured pup Smiles met her feline friend Amie after her rescue, and they became inseparable.
Adopted in: February 2010 (together!) from Homeward Trails in Arlington, Va. Smiles has a spacious fenced-in yard where she chases squirrels for hours, and Amie has a ceiling-to-floor kitty condo where she spends her lazy days.

Though she was thrown out on the streets while pregnant, she still trusted humans.
Adopted: Summer 2010 from Kanawha/Charleston Humane Association in West Virginia. She fell in love with a wonderful family of five, and enjoys chasing after her three “siblings” at home.

The months-old pup was suffering from mange, malnourishment and pneumonia.
Adopted: Spring 2010 from the Forgotten Friends of Long Island in New York. He lives with a little boy who loves him to pieces, and may get another puppy pal soon.

The Lab mix was a perfectly lovely pooch who found herself at Home for Good dog rescue.
Adopted: October 2010 by a loving family from Summit, N.J. She’s enjoying her forever home, where she shares space with four rescued female felines.

Amber’s former owners left the starving, pregnant Staffordshire terrier tied to a fence in Arkansas.
Adopted: September 2010 from the Humane Society of Garland County. Now, she loves romps in the lake with her family, and playing with kids!

When the playful pup’s family moved to a no-pets home, she ended up at a shelter.
Adopted: May 2010 from the Sacramento SPCA. She was rescued by a kind gentleman who didn’t have any other pets, making her top dog.

The shy, 7-year-old beagle mix was picked up on the streets of Louisville.
Adopted: Summer 2010 from the Kentucky Humane Society. She now lives with a wonderful family – and another beagle!

The German shepherd-Akita mix had been at a Northbrook, Ill., shelter longer than any other dog.
Adopted: October 2010 from Heartland Animal Shelter. He is currently living in Chicago with a nurturing new family.

Found in Reno, the shepherd-Rottweiler puppy was guaranteed to be the perfect travel companion.
Adopted: February 2010 from the Nevada Humane Society. He spends his days taking long walks with his Reno-based “people.”

The brave boxer saved her Texas foster family from a deadly snake attack.
Adopted: October 2010 from Austin Boxer Rescue. She’s living with a friend of her foster family in a house with a huge yard, and even has a shepherd-mix pal to play with.
