After her poodle died a few years ago, Mary Lynn Rajskub wasn’t looking to adopt another dog – until she laid eyes on Emmy.

“When Emmy and I met, I knew she was the dog for me,” the actress tells LIFE+DOG magazine of her now 5-year-old Cockapoo.

But the adoption process wasn’t all smooth sailing. Emmy had already gone home with someone by the time Rajskub decided to take her in, but then a little bit of luck helped her get her girl.

“Just as we were about to leave, the people who had gotten Emmy brought her back because their landlord didn’t allow dogs,” she says. “What are the chances they would bring her back just as we were there? I had to have that little wiggly uffball of love and we have enjoyed every day together!”

A few years later, Rajskub added French briard Ginger, now 3-years-old, to the brood, through a friend who’s a breeder. While she was initially hesitant about taking in such a large dog, “I have never looked back,” she says. “Ginger is the best dog ever. She is a heart wrapped in fur!”

When not on set, the actress enjoys spending time with her mutts by hiking around L.A. and giving them “full body hugs”, her way of repaying the love they have shown her.

“They have taught me unconditional love,” she says, describing her relationship with her dogs as “heaven.” “For real! They are ridiculously loving!”
