If you’re looking for luck, pick this Penny up.

The stray dog is doing well after being hit by a train on Monday.

According to CBS 6, animal control officers were called to train tracks in Richmond, Virginia, when a worker spotted the pit bull pup. “I noticed her laying on the tracks, and I thought she had passed away,” said Chris Fussell.

The dog was very much alive and somehow survived the impact of the accident. Though she suffered a severed leg and tail, she was miraculously upbeat after the ordeal.

“When we got there, she was wagging her tail at us, laying on the tracks,” said Christie Chipps Peters, the director of Richmond’s Animal Care and Control.

Another jaw-dropper: When they checked Penny for internal injuries, there were none to speak of.

“We were like, ‘Surely being hit by a train she’s going to be obliterated inside,’ we did X-rays of everything and there are no other breaks,” Chipps Peters added.

On Tuesday, the dog had surgery to remove the rest of her right leg and tail, CBS 6 reports.

Though Animal Control is still waiting for an owner to come forward, they named the pup Lucky Penny in a nod to her amazing survival skills. She will be available for adoption on July 12.
