The actress went from foster mom to forever mom with her two rescues

How did two dogs end up going from wandering the streets to living it up at Kristin Davis’s house?

The story began four years ago in South Central L.A. A female dog had given birth to a litter of five puppies when a passerby found the family and took them to a downtown shelter. But, the shelter didn’t seem like the best fit for a litter of newborn pups, so they were moved to a smaller rescue organization who reached out for a foster.

They didn’t find a foster right away, exactly, but received a donation from Sex and the City star Kristin Davis.

“And then they were like, ‘Oh, can’t the dogs come visit your house?’” the actress told at the Humane Society of the United States’ 25th Genesis Awards last month. “So they came to live at my house and, of course, I got very attached.”

Two of them, the mother, called Momma, and one puppy, Sam, stayed for good. The others have all found their own forever homes.

Momma and Sammy don’t know any tricks, Davis said, but they have figured her out. “They have me very well trained, that’s about it,” she said. “They do anything for food, but not tricks.”

The mixed-breed dogs are “energetic and very attached to each other and to me,” Davis told in an e-mail. “I do feel that Momma has a keen awareness that she has a wonderful life now, as opposed to living on the streets and scrounging for food. I believe there is an extra element of devotion from a rescued animal.”
