A few days after the shocking death of Knut the polar bear there are some answers about what happened. The Associated Press reports that the famous bear dropped dead on Saturday in front of hundreds of zoo patrons because he suffered from brain problems.
The Berlin Zoo told the AP in a statement that initial findings from a necropsy performed on Monday showed “significant changes to the brain, which can be viewed as a reason for the polar bear’s sudden death.”
Pathologists didn’t find any changes in the animal’s other organs, the AP said, but the necropsy is still ongoing and they may know more after bacteriological, histological or tissue examinations.
People all over the world are mourning the loss of Knut, including hundreds who flocked to his enclosure Sunday, leaving mementos and messages.
