Leo Howard, star of Disney XD’s Kickin’ It, is an actor, model and martial artist who does most of his own stunts, but for all he’s tried, he cannot skateboard. His 3-year-old bulldog, Bella, however, is a different story.

“I am terrible at skateboarding – Bella is way better than I am,” Howard tells PEOPLE. “I’m a little jealous, too. ‘How do you do that? You have four legs!’”

Howard, 14, grew up around dogs thanks to his parents, who are professional breeders. Of all the dogs they’ve had over the years, though, Bella has been the only one to skateboard.

“She is just obsessed,” Howard says. “She doesn’t know whether she wants to eat it or ride it, so she’ll do both at the same time.”

Howard first met Bella when she was surrendered to his parents by a divorced couple. There was an immediate connection. “She’s been my childhood dog,” he says, “the first dog I’ve had that’s mine.”

It doesn’t matter that there are 20 other dogs in the house along with Bella – she knows she’s Howard’s one-and-only.

Howard says, “She’s absolutely bonkers and no one really knows what that means except me.”
