An adorable puppy wriggled its way into Jane Lynch’s heart over the weekend.

The Glee star adopted an Australian shepherd mix at a pet adoption event on Saturday in Studio City, Calif., and she named the male pup Francis Willoughby Lynch Embry, her agent tells PEOPLE. PHOTOS: Glee Goes Wild – for Animals!

The actress hadn’t planned on bringing a furry friend home that day. According to photographer Denis Castro, Lynch played with lots of other cats and dogs at the event and said she wasn’t going to adopt. After a short trip to a nearby bookstore, she changed her mind, and along with wife Lara Embry and daughter Haden, she adopted the canine and cuddled the little pooch on the sidewalk.

Having recently said goodbye to beloved cat Greta, Lynch and family have room in their home – and hearts – for Francis. Hopefully the same will be true of the other furry members of the household: Lhasa apso Olivia, Wheaten terrier Georgie and tabby cat Riley.
