Lilly was heartbroken.
She’d given birth to a beautiful foal, only to say goodbye to it 24 hours later. Sadly, the horse’s baby had to be put to sleep following complications after birth.
Lilly’s owner, breeder Polly Jackson of Nottingham, England, took to social media to help her grieving animal in the best way she knew how.
“I have a lonely mum who would be happy to look after any newborn foster foal,” read Jackson’s post, written on May 2. “Please share this post as there maybe another little baby foal in need of her care. She is one amazing mother. Thanks for sharing.”
If sharing is caring, that’s exactly what happened when people read the touching post – it was shared more than 59,000 times. Within days a foal in need was located (no word yet on where the baby animal came from – a Facebook message sent to Jackson was not returned) and Lilly is currently mothering it to the best of her abilities.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has helped us find a foal for my mare Lilly who sadly lost her foal last Friday,” said a follow-up post from Jackson on May 6. “She is now a happier lady.”
