A dog named Ruby is glowing ruby red! The cloned beagle puppy is the world’s first transgenic dog, producing a fluorescent protein that glows red under ultraviolet light.

Created by a team of scientists at Seoul National University in South Korea, Ruby – or Ruppy (Ruby Puppy), for short – and her counterparts carry a gene produced by sea anemones. Though researchers hope this development will lead to a disease model for studies on illnesses someday, for now, the dogs are just glowing to glow.

The scientists implanted 344 modified embryos into 20 dogs, producing five glowing pups (including Ruby) who are now spawning their own fluorescent offspring. Click here to watch a video of the pups in action!
