Bush and Wife Laura Adopt Adorable New Puppy Named Freddy On Monday, the former president took to Instagram to share a picture of the new addition to the Bush family, including how they met him By Alexia Fernández Updated on November 15, 2016 10:20 AM Share Tweet Pin Email George W. Bush and wife Laura have added to their family with an adorable new puppy named Freddy! On Monday, the former president took to Instagram to share a picture of the new addition to the Bush family, including how they met him. “@laurawbush and I are thrilled to introduce the newest member of our family, Freddy Bush,” he wrote. “We visited the @spcatexas’ Jan Rees-Jones Animal Care Center last Tuesday to thank them for their great work — and came home with a puppy.” That’s right. The former commander-in-chief and first lady fell for a puppy, who they gifted with a charming name. “We already love him, and even our cats Bob and Bernadette are finding Freddy’s charm futile to resist,” Bush continued. “If you could use a little extra joy in your life, consider adopting a pet from an animal shelter or rescue group.” Freddy isn’t the family’s first dog. The former president and first lady were pet owners to Miss Beazley, a Scottish Terrier that passed away in 2014 from lymphoma, and Barney, also a Scottish Terrier that passed away in 2013, also from lymphoma. Barney was infamous during the Bush presidency for famously biting a member of the press corps but was cute in a series of White House videos with puppy pal Miss Beazley.
