At a time when shelters across the country are packed with pets – many turned in by victims of the housing crisis – George Clooney’s girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis made sure one more animal would have a home for the holidays.

Canalis, an Italian TV host, was photographed walking away from the Moorpark Park mobile adoption held Saturday in Studio City, Calif., by L.A. Animal Services with her new Chihuahua in tow. The horse-loving actress and model is also mom to a mini Doberman named Piero.

While a spokesperson for the agency said she can’t comment on any specific adoptions, she said anyone who takes home a city shelter dog is doing the animal a huge favor.

“We’re always very happy when anybody comes out and adopts from our mobile adoptions, especially when it’s a celebrity to send the message to take home a pet that really deserves a home,” says spokesperson Kathy Davis.

Other recent celebs checking out adoptables in L.A. recently include Mickey Rourke, who stopped by Molly’s Mutts & Meows animal rescue’s adoption day in West Hollywood (and played with a few different dogs, including a 90-lb. pit bull), and Jack Black, who visited with some cats while out walking with his wife and children on the same day.

“At this moment we have [more than 1,700] dogs and cats in our centers all looking for homes, and want to come home for the holidays,” Davis says. “All are expecting to be a present under the Christmas tree.”

For future mobile adoptions in any city, check with animal services. In Los Angeles, visit and scroll down to the “events” section.
