DOUBLE THE PLEASURE
On Friday she turned 56 years young, but Oprah Winfrey wasn’t waiting for birthday surprises to come to her. “I did decide, though, to get myself a little birthday gift this year. Actually, I thought I’d get myself two,” she said. “I want you to meet my two new babies.” Welcome to the good life, Sunny and Lauren! LIVING HER BEST LIFE
ALONG FOR THE RIDE
BFFS FOR LIFE
Oprah called Sophie, pictured here outside New York City’s Ritz-Carlton Hotel in 2004, “the true love in my life.” Sophie died in 2008 from kidney failure at age 13.
Oprah, a big fan of cocker spaniels, also had chocolate-coated Solomon, a gift from partner Stedman Graham. Solomon, who also survived parvo, died at 14 in 2008.
COME RAIN OR COME SHINE
For every hardship and joy she experienced with her pooches, Oprah had Stedman (who, she says, had an unbelievable resemblance to Sophie!) by her side. They even took the dogs out in the rain together (left, in 1998).
JOINED AT THE HIP
Oprah seemingly toted Sophie everywhere, even to the salon! Here, they were photographed together outside the Anastasia salon in Beverly Hills.
GETTING ALONG FAMOUSLY
“Cute as a button, in an old man kind of way,” Oprah once said of Solomon. He was definitely cute enough to get lots of attention from friends like Halle Berry, seen here at an Ebony Magazine event in 1996.
