French authorities recently announced the name of an assault and explosive search dog that died during Wednesday’s counter-terrorism apartment raids in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis

According to The Independent, during the seven-hour operation to locate Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a suspected mastermind behind the Paris attacks that took the lives of at least 129 people, Diesel, a 7-year-old Malinois, was shot and killed. Five officers, possibly more, sustained minor injuries during the raid as well.

France’s police confirmed Diesel’s death on its Twitter account, posting a photo of the female dog along with a tribute to the canine. The Tweets honor Diesel’s dedicated work, saying that she was an indispensable part of many missions.
