Someone taped his mouth shut and chained the pup to a weight and then tossed him into a Texas creek — thankfully Rusty is doing okay after a good Samaritan spotted and saved him.

According to KHOU News who first reported the story, Randy Abke and his wife were driving in Waller County when they noticed the chain and stopped to check it out.

“It was left for dead, it was obvious, so I publicized it,” Abke told the station. “I hope we find out who done it. It’s unforgivable to see something like that.”

The Abkes called the Waller County Sheriff’s Office who is currently investigating the case and offering a $1,000 reward (to contribute to that reward, send a check written to Waller County Crime Stoppers to 701 Calvit, Hempstead, TX 77445.)

“The Waller County Sheriff’s Office appreciates all the calls in reference to the puppy that was found in the creek last night,” reads a post on their Facebook page. “He is currently under veterinary care, who has stated he appears to be in good health.”

Anyone interested in adopting Rusty, as he’s being called, should call Animal Control Officer Wesley Martin at 979-826-8282 ext. 4047.

“We will do all we can to find the person(s) responsible for committing this terrible crime,” the sheriff’s office said. “If you have any information about his case, please contact The Waller County Sheriff’s Office at 979-826-8282.”
