Why People Tweet Photos of 'Superb Owls' During the Super Bowl
Even if you don't give a hoot about who won the Super Bowl, everyone agrees that owls are the best
It happens every year: the Internet obsesses over owls on Super Bowl Sunday.
As you may have noticed a seemingly odd, yet utterly adorable phrase was trending on Twitter before and during the big game last year: “Superb owl.” But why?

But the most obvious explanation is that football fans, Harry Potter fans and almost everyone else on the Internet, just really love owls. Here are some of our favorite feathered (and mostly friendly) memes of the year.
For those of us who didn’t give a hoot about the game, the celebration of these majestic birds is a welcomed diversion. See you next year, “Superb Owl” honorees.
