This Florida raccoon looks like he is trying his paw at the cowboy life – but subbing in alligators for horses.

Richard Jones caught this amazing candid shot on Saturday at the Ocala National Forest, reports ABC affiliate WFTV, but the story behind it isn’t quite as outlandish as a raccoon rodeo.

Jones was walking along the Oaklawaha River with his son, when the boy accidentally startled a raccoon. The animal scurried towards the water and onto the back of an alligator conveniently resting nearby.

“I snapped a lucky picture right when the gator slipped into the water and before the raccoon jumped off and scurried away. Without the context you’d think the raccoon was hitching a ride across the river. Pretty amazing,” Jones told WFTV.

The moment only lasted for a few seconds before the raccoon decided to move to less dangerous ground, but Jones has captured it forever. The picture is now making its way around the web, to the delight of just about everyone who sees it.
