The 280-lb. black bear died on the highway early Thursday morning
The bear made famous when a photo of his fall from a tree branch went viral died Thursday after being struck by two cars on U.S. 36 in Colorado.
The male black bear was picked up by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials, who identified the bear as being the same one that had fallen from the tree on the University of Colorado Boulder’s campus.
“It’s a bummer,” Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Jennifer Churchill told the Boulder Daily Camera. “It’s so hard to go through this and not be able to give these bears a good place to live.”
Two cars were involved in the accident with the bear, and one of the drivers sustained minor injuries.
