Cupcakes are without a doubt the “It” sweet of the decade. While famed bakeries like Magnolia, Crumbs and Buttercup excel at churning out delicious and lavishly decked-out treats, their concoctions will cost you $4 or more, which isn’t exactly practical if you’re looking to serve a large group. So if you’ve mastered the art of baking store-bought cake mixes but still struggle to decorate your homemade delicacies to your liking, leave the sprinkles in the pantry and snatch up some of Marisol Mann’s adorable animal-themed cupcake toppers.

“I started decorating cakes [five years ago], but I made individual cupcakes for my kids,” Mann tells “Everyone liked them, so I started doing them for neighbors and friends.”

Through her shop, Sweet and Edible, Mann now sells toppers that are all handcrafted and 100% edible. Her creations are made fresh from edible fondant, a sugary dough. “If you store them in an airtight container they can last up to a year,” she explains. Her collection includes cute cows, perky pigs and mischievous monkeys, but she also welcomes custom orders.

Want an unusual color combination – say, a pink and yellow zebra – for your special event? You wouldn’t be the first to ask Mann for this unique design. “The beauty of [the toppers] is that the possibilities are endless,” she says. She’ll even add a hint of vanilla, almond or orange extract upon request.

Check out Mann’s etsy shop her complete selection of toppers ($12-$15 for 12) in time for all of your holiday festivities.
