Autumn officially begins on Wednesday. And while it may still be too warm in most quarters to break out your pet’s fleece blankets, a cotton hoodie could be the perfect accessory to help ward off those brisk fall breezes.

Melissa Jenkins, the proprietor of Seattle-based katyandzucchini designs, already owned a successful screen-printing business in Seattle when she noticed that her T-shirt supplier also carried some adorable doggie hoodies. Smitten with the hipster-pet look, Jenkins bought one for her pug-Maltese mix, Smudge. Before long, she was accentuating the sweatshirts with dog-friendly designs and selling them along with the human-sized shirts.

Jenkins, a self described “nerd,” draws inspiration from her day job as a science teacher and her love of punk rock to create her designs, which include a skull and bones, a robot and a bird.

Her personal favorite – and best-seller – is the robot dog hoodie ($20). But Jenkins welcomes personal requests. “I am working on a custom order right now for a customer who wants a hoodie that says ‘I heart Wookies,’ ” she tells PEOPLEPets.com. Her designs come in a variety of colors – both the screenprinting and the hoodies.
