It was surprising enough that a dog was dumped in the lobby of Oklahoma City Animal Welfare overnight on Thursday.

But when a veterinarian examined the 1-year-old shar-pei mix, they discovered something even more unusual: the animal doesn’t have eyes.

“She acts likes she’s had no vision for quite some time,” shelter veterinarian Dr. Allison Halley told KOCO 5 News. “So she’s adjusted pretty well. She can hear very, very well.”

The pup, who has been named Magoo by shelter staff, was infested with fleas but doesn’t appear to be the victim of abuse.

“When you just leave an animal without giving us any information or any history, it’s really difficult for us to for us to even have a starting place on knowing what kind of treatment or care this type of animal needs,” animal welfare superintendent Julie Banks told the news station.

Anyone with information about the dog is encouraged to call Oklahoma City Animal Welfare at 405-297-3100.

It appears the community is really touched by the dog’s story.

“Thank you for all of your kind wishes about Magoo’s recovery,” reads a post on OKC Animal Welfare’s Facebook page. “She will wait her stray period at the shelter and then will go into foster care so she can heal. We will post a notice on Facebook when she becomes available for adoption.”
