Dog Finds Newborn Baby Abandoned by Side of Road

It was a road less traveled by Jeff Kopp and his dog, Bobby.
But something inspired the pooch to take a different route down Marion Road on Monday in Diamond Lake, Michigan, and it’s a good thing that Kopp obliged.
The dog pulled his owner to a satellite dish just three feet away from the dirt road where a newborn baby had been left.
“I saw what [looked like] a rabbit at first,” Kopp told WOOD TV8. “Then it moved. That’s when I started yelling.”
The hours-old baby girl, whose umbilical cord was still attached, was lying in the fetal position with leaves on her face, according to Kopp’s daughter Cathleen Neal, who ran to her father’s aid along with his wife.
“Once the women picked her up and wrapped her up, then eventually she started to cry, and we knew that she was okay,” Kopp said.
Added Neal: “She wasn’t crying or moving until I picked her up. It was a relief to me because I knew she was alive.”
The baby, who had a few minor bruises and scrapes, was conscious and moving when paramedics arrived. She was taken by ambulance to Gerber Memorial Hospital in Fremont, where she continues to recover, the Newaygo County Sheriff s Department told WOOD TV8.
The child’s mother – believed to be a teen from the area – was located on Monday, and she was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The news report said criminal charges had not yet been filed.
Kopp believes it was no accident that he and Bobby made this unimaginable discovery.
“I feel that we were led to that place, okay, because it was out of the ordinary for me to come in this direction,” he said. “I tend to think it was God [that] led us this way, that all life is precious to him.”
