Every pet deserves a warm lap, a loving home and YouTube stardom. NBC TV is working to make this dream a reality for all the cats and dogs waiting to be adopted.

On Aug. 15, NBC Universal will host a nationwide pet adoption initiative called Clear the Shelters in an effort to place the country’s thousands of homeless pets with forever families. The drive will be broadcasted in 19 markets, matching 28 local news stations with nearby animal shelters.

Viewers looking to welcome a furry family member will be able to bring the cats and dogs they see on TV home for reduced fees.

Over 400 shelters, throughout the United States and Puerto Rico, are participating in the drive. You can find out which shelters near you are participating in this effort by visiting Clear the Shelter’s website.

To help get fans excited about this one-of-a-kind animal TV takeover, NBC talent and celebrities have been Tweeting photos of the precious shelter pets in their lives.
