For Carrie Underwood, including her dog on her wedding day was a total no-brainer.

“He’ll be one of the ring bearers–he’s like my kid,” the Grammy-winning singer told reporters at the Bideawee animal shelter in Manhattan March 30. “If I was getting married and I had a child, of course my child would be the wedding. Ace is such a big part of my life.”

The singer was in town to talk about her partnership with the Pedigree Adoption Drive, which donates a bowl of food to a shelter dog for each person who becomes a fan on Facebook.

“Fans can [also] help out by adopting a dog, or donating money. There’s all kinds of little things they can do. My mom volunteers at the local shelter.”

Underwood says she and her Canadian fiancé Mike Fisher look forward to adopting another dog, though not necessarily a roommate for Ace. “I definitely want another dog … It all comes down to travel, but if we got one it would probably [live] more in Canada. Ace is so little, he can go everywhere with me. If we got a bigger dog it would be a little bit more of a challenge.”

Speaking of, the singer says Ace’s ring bearer duties won’t go without careful consideration. Asked if her pet (who’s got his own fan site) would walk down the aisle on the big day, Underwood laughed and said the job may need to be tailored to him.

“I don’t know if I’ll put the ring on him,” she says. “I don’t know if he’ll run away with it or eat it or something!”
