President Barack Obama may have postponed his annual holiday vacation to Hawaii to show solidarity for Senators working on the national health care bill, but his family wasn’t just twiddling their thumbs, waiting to board Air Force One. Instead, as part of White House tradition, First Lady Michelle joined her daughters Sasha and Malia in a reading of “ ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas” at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Who did they bring along? None other than Bo! The First Dog made his first formal appearance at the reading, and indulged the audience in a little canine therapy.

Bo wore his red-and-white holiday collar (last seen on Oprah’s Christmas special!), and sat obediently (plied by a bag of treats, according to the Washington Post) as Mrs. Obama read the Christmas tale. It looks like the First Lady also asked the superstar pooch for a repeat performance of his famous high-fiving act. Watch the video below for some more exquisite cuteness from the Obamas!
