A puppy to in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is looking to go from trash to treasure.

According to a post from the Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control Facebook page, the puppy is “just 4 months old but has already gone through so much in his short life.”

The little dog was found caught in a cage that was dumped in a trash can. A garbage truck driver discovered the discarded dog on March 20. Since then, the puppy has been under the care of Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control, reports WANE.

After getting picked up by his rescuers, the puppy was taken to see a veterinarian. According to the WANE, the vet found that the puppy had endured “multiple traumas” in the few month he had been alive. This trauma resulted in neurological issues which left the canine blind.

The puppy is ready to put this dark past behind him. After spending several months in a foster home, the pup is looking to be adopted by a forever home that is dedicated to caring for a special needs pet.

While this puppy focuses on new beginnings, the shelter is working to get justice for the abused dog.
