TALK TO ME TREATBALL

Stern’s husband, radio host Howard Stern, share in pampering their pets. “Howard and I recorded our voices into the Treatball,” Stern says. “When we leave, we put a little treat into the ball. PETSTAGES COZY CALMING MAT

Stern, who also has two cats, just introduced the second, named Walter, to Apple, who she had for about a year. To help Apple cope with the new addition, Stern got her a calming mat. “I don’t know what it is in there, but she loves it,” Stern says. “It’s her little safety mat.” (Amazon, $11.62)

MARTINGALE COLLARS BY 2 HOUNDS DESIGN

Stern has already stocked up on these collars to give as gifts this season. “I thought they were gorgeous,” she says. “They’re not something you would normally buy for your dog because $35 seems like a lot to pay for a collar. Everybody’s getting different ones from me.” (2 Hounds Design, $35)

BETH O. BLINGBONE BENEFIT DIAMOND CHARMS

Image

It wouldn’t be a proper gift guide without a little something for the humans, and Stern suggests the charms she helped design. “It’s high, high-end jewelry,” she says. “I wear the anklet, I wear the ring, I wear the bracelet – I wear all of them. I’m a walking poster for my jewelry.” Best of all? All the proceeds go to North Shore Animal League of America, for which Stern is a spokesperson. (Bling Bone, from $365)

NEATER FEEDER

NEATER FEEDER

“When I used to put Bianca’s water down it would spill over and I was always cleaning the floor,” Stern says. After she saw Neater Feeder featured on a morning show and ordered it one day, her life changed. “It’s really convenient and practical for people who don’t feel like dealing with the sloppy pet.” (Neater Feeder, from $34.99)

ORVIS DOG TREADMILL

Image

“Dog obesity is a big problem in this country,” Stern says. “If you don’t have the energy or time to walk your dog, what I recommend is a doggie treadmill. It takes a little while to get the dogs accustomed to it and they are expensive, but if you’re looking for a lavish gift for a dog that’s fat, it’s really great.” (Orvis, from $550)

RUFF WEAR DOG LIFE JACKETS

Image

Since Bianca can’t swim, Stern likes the idea of a life jacket. “The red one is great for the holidays, and it’s good for safety,” she says. “I like gifts that provide a dual purpose.” (Ruff Wear, $74.95)

DR. SHAWN'S ORGANIC SHAMPOO

DON'T GIVE PETS AS HOLIDAY GIFTS

Christopher Appoldt

“Some people think it’s cute and fun to wrap up a puppy for someone during the holidays, and that’s my biggest no-no,” Stern says. “It has to be thought out and prepared.”
