The Special Memories Zoo in Greenville, Wisconsin, had some depressing Mother’s Day news.

On Sunday, the zoo announced a red kangaroo joey had been stolen from its mother’s pouch earlier in the week, reports NBC News.

Zoo officials discovered that the baby was missing on Wednesday and said four goats were also stolen. The thieves took the joey directly from the mother’s pouch, which injured the mother.

“There’s just bad people in the world,” owner Dona Wheeler told NBC News. “It’s very, very upsetting.”

This is the zoo’s first issue with theft. Wheeler says she is planning to add surveillance cameras to the zoo to prevent further incidents.

Outagamie County Police are investigating the case and working with the zoo to safely return the animals.
