Well, we’ve got another one for the “adorable animal found where it doesn’t belong” file.

A baby northern fur seal is recovering after being discovered in some bushes at a San Francisco Bay Area business park.

The Hayward Police Department said in a post to their Facebook page that the pup was found, malnourished and dehydrated, early Wednesday morning. They said that they initially thought the caller was mistaken and that the seal was in actuality just a “possum or a weird cat.”

The intrepid animal had gotten out of the water, crossed Interstate 880 and wound up in the park, but what’s more incredible is that this is his second attempt to escape from the aquatic confines of the Pacific Ocean.

Laura Sherr of the Marine Mammal Center in Sausalito confirmed that the seal (Pipester, as he’s apparently called) had arrived at the Center before, last November. He was tagged and released, which is how they identified him this time. The Center rescued a record number of northern fur seal pups in 2015, over three times the usual amount.
