Ethel hates going outside in the rain. The little Maltese can smell the wet sidewalks from upstairs, and by the time she gets down to the doorway of my apartment building, she’s like, “No.”
I got her a yellow hooded raincoat when I first adopted her, but it didn’t fit right. It was too heavy, she couldn’t see. She might have hated that more than the rain. So I’d have to hold an umbrella over her, or just kind of drag her along until she did her business and both of us miserable fools could go back inside.
The day my life changed was when I was doing some browsing on OldNavy.com and found a little section that said “Dog.” Because, lo and behold, Old Navy makes the cutest little raincoat called Hooded Jacket-in-a-Packet for Dogs.
I’m telling you, it’s a dog owner’s rainy day dream come true. First, it’s adorable, and comes in green, blue, yellow and pink, and each has a little patch that reads, “Good Dog!” Second, it’s affordable – currently on sale for $9.99 and $12.99, down from $14.50 (though I happily paid full price). Third, it’s super convenient – it tucks into itself and zips up to make a little pouch that you can take with you anywhere.
Spring is on for real now, so there might not be much more rain left until fall, but the Jacket-in-a-Packet was definitely one of my smarter purchases for Ethel this year. And now it doesn’t matter what the weather’s like outside!
