Ashton Kutcher may have had a little bit of a birdbrain moment — but “it’s the thought that counts,” says wife Mila Kunis.

Stopping by for a chat with Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday’s episode of her eponymous daytime talk show, Kunis, 35, revealed that her husband’s romantic gesture this past Valentine’s Day didn’t go quite as he had envisioned.

“Birds [were] nesting outside of our kitchen window, and my daughter and I and my son get so into watching [them],” the Wonder Park voice actress says of the couple’s children Dimitri Portwood, 2, and Wyatt Isabelle, 4.

“So for Valentine’s Day, Ashton got me two little lovebirds … and we took them to the bird lady you recommended,” she tells DeGeneres, 61. “And when we brought our little lovebirds in to get their nails trimmed or, you know, things that people do with birds, she informed us that we, in fact, did not have lovebirds but instead have parakeets.”

“[Parakeets are], like, $10,” jokes the host. “Lovebirds are more expensive!”

“[Ashton] called a Petco-like store and they were like, ‘Yes, come in, we have lovebirds.’ So he walked in and they’re like, ‘These are lovebirds!’ ” recalls Kunis.

“They lied to him and sold him lovebirds and they were parakeets,” DeGeneres says.

The family isn’t sweating it too badly, though, considering they are now the owners of two “beautiful” parakeets that are blue and teal in color.

“But they’re not lovebirds, guys, ’cause that’s not what lovebirds look like,” Kunis tells the audience.

And with their “friendly” disposition, they might as well be lovebirds! Says the actress with a laugh, “We’re like, ‘Oh look, they’re so in love!’ ”

Wonder Park opens in theaters nationwide March 15.
