April the Giraffe's Baby Boy Has a Name! Find Out What It Is
The votes from the contest are in, and the calf's keeper got the honor of naming the baby boy
April’s long-anticipated arrival is no longer the “new calf” or “baby boy.”
This newborn now has a name!
April’s calf has been named Tajiri, Taj for short. Tajiri is Swahili for “hope.”
Animal Adventure Park decided on this name after tallying the votes from its naming contest. After looking at the votes from around the world for each of the Top Ten names decided upon in phase one of the contest, “Alyssa’s Choice” was the winner.
This winning option left the responsibility of naming the baby to Alyssa, one of April and Taj’s keepers.
After careful consideration, she decided on Tajiri because she felt the little calf has given hope to countless live stream viewers, and that the baby is a definite sign of hope for the future of giraffe conservation.
Fans of April and Taj can watch the pair grow and bond every Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., when their famous live stream will be back up on the zoo’s Facebook.
