It’s Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog month, and in honor of all the awesome dogs living in shelters, we’re introducing you to lovable rescue dogs all month long. Today, we’d like you to meet Franklin, a pit bull mix who just wants to be around people.

How did such a sweet dog end up in a shelter? That’s what the staff at the Animal Ark shelter in Hastings, Minn., wondered when they first met this friendly, people-loving pooch who was admitted two weeks ago as a stray.

The 3-year-old pooch was found wandering the streets in nearby St. Paul, but clearly belonged to someone once.

“He was in very good condition,” says executive director Mike Fry. “We were just really surprised that nobody came forward to claim him.”

In the two weeks that Franklin’s been at the shelter, he’s been a model canine. The staff loves him, as do the other dogs he’s played with. The silky-coated dog keeps himself entertained with balls and rawhides, but his absolute favorite pastime is hanging out with people.

“He tries to sit in laps, but he’s very respectful. He’s not pushy about it,” says Fry. “He really likes to snuggle. Being cuddly with people is one of his favorite things.”

If you want to keep warm with Franklin this fall, contact the Animal Ark no-kill shelter at (651) 772-8983. To learn more about him, visit his profile page.
