Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Colt, a pup currently being cared for by the Viva New Mexico Rural Animal Rescue.

The adorable pooch was surrendered to a local shelter with a female and six puppies because their owners could no longer afford to care for them.

“The shelter was full, so we scrambled to find foster homes and got them out of there,” says Ashley Pedroncelli, the rescue’s founder and director. “They were all suffering from kennel cough, which we took care of with help from our vet.”

The Aussie/flat coated retriever mix likes other dogs and appreciates older children, who give him space when he needs it. “Colt can be shy sometimes, and very young children tend to overwhelm him,” Pedroncelli says.

But when he’s comfortable, Colt is more than happy to give love where it’s needed. “Colt is a sweet natured, friendly pup who would love a home with another dog,” she says, “His favorite things to do are nap and cuddle, he is really mellow for his age.”
