The 5-year-old former barn cat needs a quiet home where she can come out of her shell

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Meet Lyric, a sweet 5-year-old cat whose real personality is masked by a fear of her surroundings.

The shelter atmosphere can be challenging for any animal, but some have a harder time adjusting. After several months at the SPCA of Martinsville-Henry County in Martinsville, Va., Lyric has had it up to here with shelter life.

“She is adorable,” says Chase Inman, director of marketing and development there. “But the shelter environment is stressing her out badly.”

All Lyric wants is a calm place to show her true colors, which, when you see them, are quite sassy. When she’s not fearful of all the sounds that are going on around her, this kitty is confident and adores being admired for her long, luscious fur.

“Lyric prefers quiet time to herself for napping but will tolerate the presence of other cats as long as they acknowledge her (in her eyes) superior status,” reads a shelter biography.

She spends a lot of time grooming herself so that she’s suitable for viewing by potential adopters, but sadly, none of them have been the right ones. Though she has lived as a barn cat in her previous life, Lyric prefers to sleep in a soft bed, all warm and cozy.

Won’t you consider opening your heart to this pretty kitty? If you’re interested in Lyric, contact the SPCA of Martinville-Henry County at 276-638-PAWS.
