Home: Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary, adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Hope, a 7-year-old fawn Labrador/Pit Bull mix available at the SPCA of Texas.

Not much is known about this sweet girl’s past, but it’s safe to assume that Hope experienced some neglect before she arrived at the shelter on Jan. 14. Her teeth were worn down, so she had to have several removed, and she was slightly underweight.

In just a few months, things have really turned around for Hope. Thanks to lots of love and TLC from staff and volunteers, Hope is now very healthy, happy and ready for a new home where she will be loved and cared for.

“I gave Hope a bath today, and she is very proud of her groomed appearance. What a pretty girl! She enjoyed belly rubs, too,” one volunteer told PEOPLE in an email.

While she loves receiving affection and attention from people, Hope can be pretty picky about her canine friends, therefore the shelter recommends she be the only dog in a home or, if you’re serious about adopting her, bring your dogs to the shelter for a meet and greet.

This playful pup enjoys going for walks and likes fun puzzle games like enrichment boxes that challenge her. She’s also quite content being lazy.

“She is super happy to just lay in bed with her toys and have you scratch her head,” another volunteer said.
When you pet her, she looks deep into your eyes and you can just feel the love, the shelter reports. Because of her past, she can be nervous sometimes but she’s a good girl who is learning to build her confidence back. If you think this pup is for you, contact the SPCA of Texas at (214) 742-SPCA (7722).
