Adopt Me! Gweeda Dreams of Being Someone's Good Dog

The 7-year-old Anatolian shepherd mix is a "lovely girl"

Home. Some pets never have one to call their own. We’d like to help change that by introducing you to an extraordinary adoptable pet every week. Today, meet Gweeda, a sweet senior pup who’s looking for a permanent place to call home after bouncing around in recent years.

In 2006, the Anatolian shepherd mix was adopted into a happy home where she lived for four years. Sadly, in 2011, her owners brought her back to the Kootenai Pets for Life rescue in Libby, Mont., because they were moving and couldn’t take her with them.

Though she wasn’t lucky enough to get adopted from that shelter, her presence made a difference. When an unruly puppy was taken in, Gweeda made it her job to teach the pooch how to be a good dog.

“This youngster had been tied to a chain it’s whole life and had boundless energy and no manners,” says Sera Johnson of the Panhandle Animal Shelter in Ponderay, Idaho. “They put the puppy in with Gweeda and she took that pup under her wing and taught it manners. That pup got adopted and became a wonderful companion to a nice family – all thanks to Gweeda.”

Gweeda has been in the care of the Panhandle Animal Shelter since July, and while the 7 year old is still waiting to find her forever home, she’s not moping about.

“She has become a favorite of the staff and volunteers,” says Johnson. “She is a lovely girl who keeps her kennel clean, walks well on a leash and has learned to enjoy playgroups and interacting with other dogs.”

If you think Gweeda is the leading lady you’ve been searching for, contact the Panhandle Animal Shelter at (208) 265-PAWS (7297). To read more about her, visit their website.
