ACM Winner Miranda Lambert Calls New Dog Her Lucky Charm
The country starlet adds another rescue pup to her brood
Miranda Lambert came away with three Academy of Country Music Awards last night, but it’s her new pooch who’s the real winner.
About eight weeks ago, the teacup Chihuahua – now named Cher – was found in an Oklahoma dumpster, abandoned by her family. “I went to the shelter to help a friend pick out a dog, and of course they bring [Cher] in,” Lambert told PEOPLE after the awards. “They’d had her for about four days, and here I am now with her. I’d said no, but we know who won that battle!”
The lucky pooch joined Lambert backstage in Las Vegas last night, before the singer accepted awards for album of the year, top female vocalist and video of the year.
“I think she really did bring me good luck tonight,” Lambert said. “She’s a blessing in my life.”
Cher – whose namesake was also in attendance at the ACM Awards – joins Lambert’s five other rescue pups, who often travel with their mom when she’s on the road. But this pooch will have some extra love: Lambert told Twitter followers she’s sharing custody of Cher with beau Blake Shelton’s mom, Dorothy.
