Planning to travel with your pet this summer? Be sure he or she is carrying some identification! Pet ID for Me, a company founded by Jason Harnum and Andrew Gallagher last year, creates tiny driver’s license-like badges that hang from your dog or cat’s collar with vital information, including your furry pal’s name, address and phone number as well as a tiny picture and a personalized background varying by state (just like a real license!).
“There are a lot of tags out there, but I thought they could be done better,” Harnum tells PEOPLE Pets. “If you look at how our tags are made online, it’s cool, interactive and fun.” A bonus? The laminated tags don’t make the jingling noise of typical metal-based pet tags.
There are two relatively small sizes, 1-in. x 1.75-in. and 1.25-in. x 2-in., and each tag comes with a matching magnet for you to keep. It’s easy to create your pet’s ID (which costs $20): just fill in all the necessary information, pick your state, add a photo online and days later the ID is yours. “It’s a conversation piece for people,” says Harnum. “And it helps everyone when animals wear identification tags. The more tags out there, the better.”
Purchasing a Pet ID for Me is also an opportunity to do good. If you order your ID through the SPCA L.A.’s Web site, $5 from the sale of your product will go directly to the organization. “We just really want to help the people that help animals,” says Harnum.
