Scarlette Tipton and her new cat Doc have a few things in common: They’re both survivors, and they’re both missing an arm.

Two-year-old cancer survivor Tipton had her left arm completely amputated when she was just 10 months old. Three-month-old Doc lost her right paw to a car accident. Christmas Eve, the Tiptons went to the animal shelter, and by Wednesday, Doc and Scarlette were buds.

“We wanted a little kitten to have [Scarlette] grow up with, so she has something that’s just like her,” mom Simone Tipton told Love Meow. She did notice that Doc had staples on her side and said ‘owies.’ I let her know that she had owies just like her, and she placed her hand on her side and just nodded. She recognizes that the cat has similar struggles as she does.”

The Tiptons have a YouCaring account set up to help defray medical costs for Scarlette, who as of her first birthday had undergone 19 surgeries. More information about her is also available at the Smiles for Scarlette Facebook group, which you can get to from the posts above.
