On the same day and with just a couple of hours of difference, two official communicates from two different European royal families announced the soon to be arrival of two new royal babies.

Princess Maxima of the Netherlands and Princess Letizia of Spain are officially pregnant and expecting their third and second children respectively.

Maxima’s announcement was released this morning by the Royal Household and the Prince or Princess will be born in April 2007. Princes Maxima and Willem-Alexander already have two daughters Princesses Catharina-Amalia and Alexia. The doctors recommended her to take it easy although she will still travel to New Zealand and Australia in October as planned.

Letizia Ortiz, Princess of Asturias and wife of the heir to the Spanish throne is expecting her second child, who will be born in May 2007. The announcement was made by SMS to the media. The Princes already have a daughter who will soon be a year old, Leonor.

About a year and a half ago, two royal pregnancies were announced on the same day, Letizia of Spain’s and Mette Marit of Norway’s. The day before, Denmark’s Royal Household announced that Australian born Princess Mary Donaldson was pregnant. At the time, less than some months before, Mathilde of Belgium and Maxima of the Netherlands announced they were pregnant as well. Will this be another royal baby boom? At the moment other royals who are also pregnant are Margarita of Anjou and Anita of Orange-Nassau.
