Did you know that David and Victoria Beckham did not name their first son Brooklyn because he was conceived in Brooklyn, New York? It’s a popularly held belief but it’s not true.

Brooklyn, now 8, was given his name because Victoria liked the name Brooke and the fact that she was in Brooklyn when she learned she was pregnant was purely coincidental.

She wrote in her autobiography, Learning to Fly,

co-author Linda Rosenkrantz tells us, "After Brooklyn’s high-profile birth in 1999, his name really took off–but for girls–probably because of its feminine sounding second syllable. In the last year counted, there were over 4,000 baby girls named Brooklyn, not to mention many others with variant spellings like Brooklynn, Brooklynne, Brooklin, etc–and the original connection to the NYC borough has been pretty much lost."
