With a gig on The Real and a 15-month-old son at home, Tamera Mowry-Housley is brutally honest when it comes to balance.

“Some days I scream,” the actress tells PEOPLE with a laugh at the 2014 Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon on Thursday.

“Honestly, you take it a moment at a time, a day at a time. Some days you got it and everything works out according to plan.”

Wearing a bright dress by Victoria Beckham, Mowry-Housley, 35, acknowledges sometimes plans simply don’t work out the way you want them to.

“The temper tantrums aren’t so fun,” she tells PEOPLE about her little guy, Aden. “He’s beautiful — he’s walking — but I see the terrible twos just around the corner. I can see how it can go there!”

Of course, she couldn’t do it without her husband of over two years, Fox News correspondent Adam Housley.

“He’s a very hands-on dad and sometimes he checks me,” jokes the former Sister, Sister star. “I’m like, ‘Wait a minute, you’re doing more than me. I’m feeling a little inadequate here!'”

“That’s such a big blessing when you have a husband that loves being a dad just as much as you love being a mom,” she adds. “He is a phenomenal father.”
